  • The Renaissance Charter High School for Innovation is a new high school opening in East Harlem in September 2010. Innovation will provide a high achieving, humanistic model of education with a curriculum that combines exceptional classroom instruction, project based learning through student portfolio work, and hands-on, experiential learning.

We are no longer accepting applications for September 2010 enrollment.

You may apply online or by printing and mailing a paper form for 2011 enrollment.

Also, see the letter we sent out to East Harlem parents in English or Spanish.

We will open our doors in September 2010 for the 2010-11 school year with a Freshman class of 125 students. We are a community based school model, giving priority to neighborhood students. We will fill a strong need in the East Harlem community for local options and, in practice, become East Harlem's only zoned high school; District 4 students will receive absolute preference in admission.

Innovation will be the sister school to the Renaissance Charter School (TRCS) in Jackson Heights, Queens, a school that has served New York City children since 1993. In the past 16 years, TRCS has developed a school culture of trust, mutual respect and collaboration. Students at TRCS recently have graduated at a rate of 95% and gone to college at a rate of 95-100% each year.

Our Big Idea Learn More About Us

Our mission is to develop leadership through innovation. Student-innovators will achieve academic excellence by setting self-created goals within a three tiered educational model of core classroom instruction, portfolio-based annual individual projects, and hands-on, experiential learning.
